The Designosaur Story

About

The Designosaur Story was written by Till Zihlmann, a budding architect from Berlin. He Studied at UDK Berlin, TU Berlin and DKA Copenhagen and has worked for architecture offices in Berlin and Basel.

The context of the Designosaur Story is the Anthropocene thesis. It confronts us with a new and often abstract world in which we live. Consequently, it is also a great challenge to deal with it. The Anthropocene thesis challenges us on both a practical and emotional level. Because too many aspects of our personal lives contribute to global change. At the same time, it is very abstract that our individual actions have such a massive impact on other localities and other temporalities. It follows that even though we know what is going on - even though we know how we could act - we do not. We always seem to find an argument to keep doing things the way we are used to. Although the climate crisis - as an aspect of the Anthropocene - should fundamentally change the way we design.

The Designosaur Story a strategy to deal with this overwhelming new reality. It is meant to help us leave habits behind and question the familiar. The Designosaur Story talks about a world where sustainability is not an adjective to describe architecture, but an inherent part of the design. It is a playful attempt to break out of well-trodden paths, to mutate the current architectural discourse and to be the breeding ground for thinking and arguing radically and differently.
